Easter Prayer HOPE
At Easter, we celebrate the resurrection of the Lord,
the triumph of life over death.
It is the great season of hope.
Catholic schools should be places of hope – Easter places!
Let us pray that our school will be inspired by a view of life that is joyful and optimistic.
Lord Jesus, fill us with the spirit of hope and joyful expectation.
Holy Week and Easter
Sunday week, 14 April, is the beginning of the Holy Week Liturgical celebrations, commencing with Palm Sunday. Please check the Parish Holy Week timetable in this newsletter for details of all the events over the next few weeks to participate in this special Church time.
We had our first MJR Assembly for 2019 last week. Congratulations to Spencer, Georgie, Mason and Siobhan for being MJR Stars. I look forward to spending time with these students sharing a special morning tea tomorrow. Our focus for next term will be our school value ‘Compassion’.

Last Wednesday was our ‘Faction Fun Day’ for this term. Next term, we will have another Faction Fun Day in Week 10 on Friday 5 July. If you child does not have a school faction shirt, you may purchase one from the uniform shop, the shirts are $17. Our Year 6 students are going to organise lunch orders for students for ‘Faction Fun Day’ next term, as part of their maths, economics and business studies. More information to follow next term.
Congratulations to the following students who were elected by their faction peers to their Leadership roles, announced at Assembly yesterday:
|Columba||Amelia Addison||Toby King|
|Thomas||Siobhan Duane||Cameron Tyrrell|
|Clancey||Elena Frontino||Cody Ecclestone|
|Finnegan||Jasmine Rowe||Nate Barbetti|
Next Wednesday 10 April at 9.00am is our annual school Fun Run. Students from Pre-primary through to Year 6 will be participating in this event in order to promote a healthy lifestyle, healthy eating and to build a spirit of community amongst the students and parents. Our P&F have kindly arranged to provide fruit platters for each class at the end of the Fun Run. There will be great music and an opportunity for parents to run or walk with their children, or just enjoy watching from the sidelines. If your child is in Kindy and would like to participate, you are welcome to bring them along to join in the fun. As it is not a Kindy day, responsibility for supervision of Kindy students remains with their parents.
The Board discussed initial plans for the celebrations to mark the 100th anniversary of our school next year. More information will follow, but please note the 14/15 February 2020 as the planned dates for the celebrations.
Art Spectacular is fast approaching. Thank you to our P&F for their organisation leading up to this event, and thanks to all who have offered their time to assist with this community event.
Mother’s Day Mass and morning tea will be held early next term, on Thursday 9 May commencing at 9.00am.
The Entertainment Book will be available again this year to purchase as a book or as on online version. Notes will be sent home asking if you would like a book sent home to preview. Please send back the note if you don’t want to receive a book, otherwise a book will be sent home to your family.
Pupil Free Days
Please be aware that Thursday and Friday this week are pupil free days. Staff will be involved in professional learning on these days. There will be no school for students on Thursday 4 and Friday 5 April.
We are very excited that Pre-Kindergarten will commence at OLOL next term. If you have a child who was born between 1.7.2015 and 30.6.2016 they are eligible to come to Pre-Kindergarten. We have some places left. Please note that as this is a self-funding program, fees will need to be paid in advance. Please contact the school office if you are interested in finding out more about Pre-K at OLOL
We are currently reviewing applications received for places in our Kindergarten for 2020. Parents of siblings of current students who have already submitted application for enrolment should have received an SMS message from the office confirming our receipt of their enrolment form. If you have a child who will be Kindergarten age next year, and you have not yet made application, it is vital that you contact the office as soon as possible, as our class for 2020 is almost full already.
Thank you to all who have donated Easter goodies as prizes for our annual Easter Raffle. The raffle will be drawn on Friday 12 April, straight after lunch. Tickets are available before school outside the office every day. All proceeds from ticket sales go to Project Compassion, through Caritas.
This year, ANZAC Day falls on the last Thursday of the school holidays, 25 April. As usual, our school has been invited to participate in the march and ceremony in our local area. If your child would like to join us, please bring them along, dressed in winter school uniform. We will meet outside the Dardanup pub at 8.45am. Students from all years are welcome.
Thank you to families who have already paid their school fees in full for the year. 40% of families have chosen this option. To say ‘thank you’, we have randomly selected one of these families to receive a free school hat. Congratulations to Kaden Brough’s family. Please drop in to the office to collect your hat.
There will be changes to the administration of the assessments this year as we move to being online, with assessments held over a two week period commencing Tuesday 14 May and concluding on Friday 24 May. Catch up assessments will be held up until 24 May if any students are absent during this period.
The Term 2 Calendar is attached to this newsletter for your planning. Please note that this may change. Please see the school newsletter for updates.
Starting in Term 2, the fortnightly newsletter will be an online version, rather than a published document.
Term 1 concludes on Friday 12 April, and resumes for students on Monday 29 April. Term 2 Calendar is attached to this newsletter for your planning and reference. Please note that from time to time changes are made, please refer to the school Newsletter for updates.
