Newsletter 25th June, 2019

Dear Parents and Community Members,

We pray for words of encouragement,
refreshing and restoring of strength,
caring wisdom, grace, love and vision for us now
and for future generations of people all across this land…
We pray for a country where our people and our land thrive,
with systems that are restorative and just.
Lord God renew our spirits and cleanse our hearts.
Renew our minds and transform our lives
Renew our communities and cities,
our towns and our homelands
and rebuild our ruins.
Renew our world and our country
In your name we pray

NAIDOC Week Activities

On Friday 28 June the students from Dardanup Primary School will join with our students to participate in a range of activities for NAIDOC week.  Activities include Koomal Dreaming, sand art, flag collage, water colour places, boomerang dot painting, scratch art, jigsaws and Dreamtime stories and pictures.  Thank you very much to Hayley Thompson for coordinating and planning for this event.  Parents are welcome to come along on Friday.

School Board

The School Board met last week and continue to support the school in financial management and in an advisory role.  Their time, freely given, is greatly appreciated.

Each year, our wonderful P&F work hard to support school events and provide opportunities for community building.  The Disco last week was a great example of people working together to provide experiences and memories for our students.  See photos in gallery.

Next Friday, reports will be available through SEQTA.  You will receive an email letting you know when reports are available to view.  Please make sure you sign up to receive your child’s report through SEQTA.  A ‘welcome’ email was sent last week.  Please celebrate progress with your child and talk about their achievements with them.  If you have any concerns, please make an appointment with the classroom teacher.

Quiz Night

We are having a school Quiz Night to enable us to work towards the creation of a Memorial Garden which will be blessed and opened at our Centenary Celebrations next year.  The Quiz Night will be held on Saturday 10th August at the Dardanup Hall.  We are looking for a few interested people to assist with the setting up on the day.  The P&F are kindly organizing the bar for the night, and school staff have already started gathering prizes and donations.  If you would like to assist, please let me know.  We are asking families to contribute small items towards prize hampers and if anyone would like to make a donation or knows of someone who has a business and would like to assist, you are most welcome to do so.  Sponsors/donors will be acknowledged on the night, in the school Newsletter and on the school Facebook page.

If possible, it would be wonderful if each family could contribute ONE of the following items:

  • A box of chocolates
  • Gourmet food items eg jams, chutneys, olive oils, biscuits….
  • Gift Cards eg Bunnings, Coles-Myer, any others for any store, any amount
  • Other vouchers for local businesses
  • Wine, if brought to school by parents (please don’t send wine to school with students)

If you would like to sponsor a table for $100, your promotional materials will be placed on the table and there will be a list of table sponsors displayed on the night.

Thank you very much in anticipation of your support.  Tickets will be on sale in the next few weeks.

Term 3

Term 3 commences for students on Monday 22 July.

This is the last newsletter for the term.  Thank you for a busy term filled with lots of learning, activities and fun.  Enjoy the holidays with your families.

Refugee Week

Thank you to the Parish and School Community for supporting us last week during ‘The Ration Challenge. Thanks to your generosity, as a family we raised over $ 1000. This went towards the $9000 plus raised by the BCC team.
It wasn’t an easy week, there were plenty of ups and downs, but we tried to stay positive. It has certainly raised our awareness and hopefully has given us more empathy for refugees and those less fortunate. For anyone thinking about doing this challenge next year, we’d encourage you to give it a go.
