Newsletter 23rd July, 2019

Dear Parents and Community Members,

We ask your blessing Lord, on this third term.
As we begin, we start planning, preparing,
sharing, talking, helping, caring,
working together with our students in mind,
supporting each other for the good of all.
Give us energy and satisfaction, sensitivity and friendship.

We ask your blessing Lord, on our children and our community.
Listening, teaching, guiding, inspiring,
enjoying learning, involving our families, celebrating diversity.
Give us warmth and encouragement, empathy and understanding.

God – Bless us with the power of your holy presence in our school.
Jesus – Bless us with the skills of your teaching in our classrooms.
Holy Spirit – Bless us with the fire of love and energy of wind so that throughout this term
we work together to build the Kingdom of God in our homes and our school.
Amen

Welcome!

Welcome back to school after the holiday.  I hope you had a good break with your families.  Welcome to Baiden and Lachlan Crapella who commenced in our Year 6 and 4 classes yesterday.  Welcome to Levi and Charli Richards, who are commencing today in Year 2 and Kindy and welcome to Grace Allan, who is starting in Pre-Kindy tomorrow.  We hope you all enjoy lots of fun and learning and make many new friends at our lovely school.  We are happy to have you with us.

Reports

Reports were made available to parents on the last day of Term 2.  Please celebrate successes with your children, and look for areas to work on for second semester.  If you have any questions regarding your child’s progress, please make an appointment to see the classroom teacher.

Board

Our School Board meets again on Tuesday 6 August at 5.30pm in the school staff room.

P&F

The Bull and Barrel Festival is coming up in October.  The school assists this community event as a fundraising opportunity.  We are looking for expressions of interest in becoming involved as a coordinator for the parking for this event.

The P&F are very generous in their support of our students.  So far this year, they have contributed $10 000 to install Interactive Projection Systems in Kindy, Year 1 and Year 3.  These were installed over the holidays and will enhance the learning in these classrooms.  They have also contributed towards supporting the learning program in each class by providing for a teacher ‘Wish List’.

Everyone is invited to attend P&F meetings to be part of decision making regarding ways to support school initiatives.

Next P&F meeting is Thursday 6 August at 9.00am, all are welcome.

Quiz Night

The Quiz Night is coming up in three weeks on Saturday 10 August. It would be wonderful if each family could contribute one item to make up prize hampers. Suggestions include gift cards (any store, any amount) boxes of chocolates, gourmet food items, bottles of wine (brought to school by parents, not students, thank you) or any other donations from businesses or families. Table sponsorship for $100 per table is an option if you would like to promote your business.  Tickets are available from the school office, tables of 8, $10 per ticket.

Art Incursion

In the last week of Term 2, we enjoyed an incursion with Phil Doncon, who painted and taught through stories, music and messages, with lots of action.  See photos in the gallery.

NAIDOC Afternoon

Last term we celebrated NAIDOC Week with our friends from Dardanup Primary School coming to join with us for a range of activities including Koomal Dreaming, sand art, dot painting, Dreamtime puzzles, scratch art, and other games and stories. It was a great afternoon of cooperation and learning.  Special thanks to Miss Thompson for her organisation of the day.  See photos in the gallery.

Faction Fun Day

On the last day of Term 2, Year 6 students organised Pizza orders and games for our Faction Fun Day.  It is always great to see the leadership skills displayed by our senior students.  See photos in the gallery.

MJR Stars

Congratulations to Sully, Jack, Katelyn and Ryan for being the Term 2 MJR Stars.  They will wear an MJR Star badge this term, their photo and certificate will be on display in the hall, and I look forward to enjoying morning tea with them soon.  These students are role models for their peers and they should be very proud of this special achievement.  See photos in the gallery.

Term 3 Calendar

Please keep this as a guide to keep you informed about some exciting events coming up this term, including Science Day activities, Confirmation, Book Week assembly, Year 1/2 excursion and Year 6 Camp, to name a few.  Please note that if any dates change, the newsletter will have updates, as will the school managed Facebook page.  The Term 3 calendar is also on the school website, Facebook page and a link is available through this newsletter.

Long Service Leave

Miss Natalie Dillon is on Long Service Leave for the first three weeks of this term.  Mrs Melinda Edwards will be the Year 2 teacher for this period.

Parish News

After Mass this Saturday night, you are invited to have dinner at the Dardanup Tavern.  Everyone is welcome. Please let Fr Wayne know by Thursday if you would like to attend.

Year 6 Camp and Year 5 Camp

Our Year 6 students are heading to Perth on September 10 for their camp.  Activities include Kings Park visit, Scitech, Team Building, Indoor climbing, Caving, Crate climb/big swing, Archery, Abseiling, Flying Fox, Fremantle prison tour and other activities.  Year 5 students will have an overnight surf camp in Term 4, where the emphasis will be on leadership skills and activities, as well as an MJR focus, where they will engage in a surfing opportunity to assist in their understanding that there are many ‘God Moments’ in our lives.

Have a wonderful week

May God bless you
