Dear Parents and Community Members,

Year 6 Camp

Year 6 students were away last week participating in a variety of challenging, team-building and leadership activities, as well as visiting Scitech, Kings Park and the Fremantle Prison.  Camp is a highlight in the final year of primary school, and our students enjoyed a memorable camp experience.  Thank you to teachers and parents who made it possible for students to take learning out of the classroom.  See photos in the gallery.

Individual Student Reports will be sent home this Friday, after teachers have had a chance to view results.  NAPLAN is one of many assessments throughout the year to track student progress.  I encourage all parents, if you have any concerns, to discuss the details of your child’s progress across a range of assessments with the classroom teachers.

MJR Assembly

Congratulations to our Term 3 MJR Stars, Raya, Oliver, Macey and Sari.  I enjoyed spending time with these students yesterday having morning tea together and finding out why they were selected as role models for their peers.  See photos in the gallery.

Open Morning

We welcome the opportunity to share our learning with family members during our Open Morning each year in Term 3.  Thank you to all the parents and grandparents who came to our classrooms to look at the work and displays.  See photos in the gallery.

Uniform Shop

Summer uniform is worn in Term 4 – make sure you check summer uniforms to see if they still fit.

P&F Meeting follow up

The Bull and Barrel Festival is coming up on 12 October, during the last weekend of the upcoming school holidays.  The P&F are in need of helpers for parking.  Please let the office know if you can help.  Remember to send in donations of chocolate for ‘Sweet Landings’ game (approximately 170-180g blocks, please).

Faction Fun Day

We are having our next Faction Fun Day on Friday this week, 20 September.  Students may wear their faction shirts with their sports uniform to develop team spirit in readiness for  the Sports Carnival early next term.  Special lunch order notes went home last week.  Subway orders closed yesterday.  The Year 6 students will tally the orders.  We thank our senior students for taking this on.

Lapping Legends

On Friday 20 September, Faction Fun Day, ‘Lapping Legends’ will be extended until 9.00am, instead of finishing at 8.45am.  This is an opportunity to run or walk a few extra laps to work towards reaching that next milestone.  Once again, I thank our P&F and parent volunteers for supporting ‘Lapping Legends’ each Friday.

School Board

Next meeting is TONIGHT, Tuesday 17 September at 5.30pm in the Staff Room.  The Board will be meeting with a Shire representative, reviewing plans for the upgrade of the road, bus bays and school entry.

Congratulations to the students from Years 4, 5 and 6 who competed in the Optiminds challenge at Leschenault Catholic Primary School on Saturday 7 September against other south-west school teams. They presented their prepared long term challenge and participated in a spontaneous team challenge where they had to use team work, critical and creative thinking skills and spontaneity in a pressured environment. All groups did an amazing job, overcame nerves, worked together and persisted despite difficulties. They should feel extremely proud of their efforts. Special thanks to Mr Vine for his work with the teams, and thank you to the parents for their support and encouragement.  See photos in the gallery.

Italian Assembly

Next Tuesday we will showcase the Italian learning that has taken place this year with a range of activities and then a short item from each class.  Students are invited to wear their sports shorts and a red, green or white t-shirt on this day, representing the colours of the Italian flag (faction shirts are ideal if your child is in Thomas or Finnegan!)

Staffing and Class Allocations for 2020

Staffing is a very complex process and will not be finalised until November.  Once finalised, this will be announced in the school newsletter.

Class Webpages

Remember to check the school website each semester to see the Class News pages.  The current webpages were uploaded last week and give an overview of class activities for the term.

Safeguarding Competition Winners

Congratulations to Olivia Licciardello and Macey Williamson for receiving prizes for their entries in the recent Child Protection Week competition.  Olivia went to Perth to be presented with her prize.

Centenary Update

Remember to order your Memorial Bricks before the end of term to secure your place in the Memorial Garden.  See the office for order forms.  We are looking for some interested people to form a committee to work on the details for the Gala Night, to be held on 14 February next year.  The venue and caterers are booked, we just need some enthusiastic people who like organising things to sort out the logistics of the event.

School Fees

School fees are now overdue and reminder letters are being sent out this week.  If you are experiencing difficulties with payment, please make a time to see me as soon as possible.  Thank you.

Term 4 Calendar

A copy of the Term 4 Calendar is available for you to download and view.  Please note that from time to time changes need to be made, so please check newsletter for updates.  A copy of the calendar is pinned to the top of the school Facebook page.

Wishing you a wonderful week and a relaxing holiday with your family, commencing next Thursday 26 September.  Please note there are two pupil free days on Thursday 26 and Friday 27 September.

School commences for Term 4 for students on Monday 14 October.

An Invitation to Have Your Say

The Catholic Education Commission of Western Australia (CECWA) is reviewing our system policies supporting our 75,000 students and 12,000 staff in 162 schools. We invite all students, parents, CEWA staff and members of your community to help by telling us: What makes a good Catholic school? Facilitated sessions will take place at our Leederville office. You can book your preferred session time online and choose from:

* Early Years LOFT Sessions (for Pre K – Year 4 Students and their Family)

* Open LOFT Sessions (Years 4 – 12 Students, Families, Staff and Community) During the school holiday sessions, participants will also help to create a mural alongside local artist Linzi Carter. This is an evolving creation, whose form will develop with each session. We welcome you to participate in this unique opportunity to have your say on the future of our schools.

For more information and to register for a session, see:
