Dear Parents and Community Members,
World Teachers’ Day
Internationally, World Teachers’ Day is celebrated on the first Friday in October. However, as this is usually during Australian school holidays, Australia celebrates on the last Friday in October of each year. World Teachers’ Day celebrates the work of teachers, acknowledging the important contribution they make to the community. The day allows students, parents and community members to show their appreciation for teachers and the positive impact they make on society.
I would like to acknowledge and celebrate our educators at OLOL. Teaching, or working with students, is a difficult job. It is challenging, tiring, energising, surprising and no day is ever the same. It is fun, but most of all, it is so rewarding. Thank you to our staff for their dedication, which is valued and appreciated. If you get a chance, please thank a teacher this week! Special thanks to our P&F Executive who prepared a beautiful morning tea for our teachers last Friday, with a very special cake and individualised ‘A+ report card’ biscuits.
Faction Sports Carnival
Our faction carnival was a wonderful example of community engagement, great sportsmanship and participation from all of our students. Thanks to all who helped out on the day, we couldn’t have had such a successful carnival without you! Congratulations to the champion and runner-up boy and girl from each year level, please see results below. Congratulations to the winning faction, Finnegan.

It was very nice to be able to celebrate ‘grandparents’ with an Assembly and morning tea last Friday.
They play an important role in the lives of our children. We were overwhelmed with the number of Grandparents who came to listen to our choir and enjoy morning tea. Please see photos in the gallery.
School Board Update
The School Board met last week. Notes went home last Friday with information regarding our annual School Community Meeting to be held on Tuesday 26 November at 6.00pm. We are seeking one nomination for a new Board Member for 2020. Please consider if this is something you would like to do. Nominations forms were attached to the letter that went home last Friday.
The next Board meeting is on Tuesday 19 November at 5.30pm.
The next P&F meeting will be held on Tuesday 19 November at 8.45am in the Staff Room. All welcome.
The Book Fair is on! It started yesterday and books are available to purchase until Friday in the Library, 8.30-9.00am and 2.45-3.15pm. A reminder that you are welcome to bring along people from outside the school to have a look – the more books sold the more the school benefits.
We welcomed our second group of Kindy students to their introduction to our school through their participation in Kindy Café sessions this week.
Interschool Sports Carnival
This is coming up on Friday 8 November at the Hay Park Athletics Track. Please note that for the Interschool Carnival:
Columba (Blue) and Finnegan (Green) will be OLOL Blue.
Thomas (Red) and Kaya (Gold) will be OLOL White.
If your child is in OLOL white, please can they wear a PLAIN white t-shirt (without writing or logo). An example of where to purchase a plain white t-shirt is ‘Best and Less’, ‘Target’ or ‘K-Mart’ for about $5. Students in OLOL Blue just wear the normal school sports shirt (NOT the blue Columba shirt). Lunch order forms were sent home last week. Please return your order form by Friday 1 November if you would like to order a Subway combo on carnival day. When the teams are finalised, parents will be informed if their child needs to arrive at the athletics track early. We will be seeking some parent help as well, please look out for the note to come home.
NAIDOC Week 2019 Competition
Congratulations to Toby King, Year 6, for being selected as recipient of the ‘NAIDOC Medal of Excellence’, one of 20 awarded across the state. Toby wrote a poem about Reconciliation. It was requested that his photo be sent for inclusion in the Prime Minister’s NAIDOC Week Final Report. Great work, Toby!

I would like to let you know that Mrs Joanne Leach has been offered a teaching position at St Mary MacKillop College in Busselton commencing next year. After more than 20 years of dedicated service to Our Lady of Lourdes School, we will miss her presence as she furthers her teaching career in another setting. We wish her well.
Welcome to the world
