To Live Life to The Full – Mental Health in Australia Today

You invite us all into the fullness of life.
May we support one another to flourish in body, mind and spirit.
Strengthen our commitment to ensure that nobody falls through the gaps in our system of care.
Help us to recognise you in those who suffer mental ill-health today.
Show us how to eliminate stigmatisation of mental ill-health from our communities.
You drew near to those who were suffering in body or mind.
May we too feel your nearness when we struggle with mental health challenges.
May we be one as members of Your Body.
You invite us to share in your ministry of love and true compassion.
May we be empowered by your Spirit to reach out to all people in need.
May we build communities of welcome and inclusion.

Dear Parents and Community Members,

Year 6 Camp

Year 6 students were away last week participating in a variety of challenging, team-building and leadership activities, as well as visiting Scitech, Kings Park and the Fremantle Prison.  Camp is a highlight in the final year of primary school, and our students enjoyed a memorable camp experience.  Thank you to the teachers and parents who made it possible for students to take learning out of the classroom.  See photos in the gallery.

Education Assistant Appreciation Week

Last week was EA Appreciation Week.  We would like to thank our wonderful EA staff for all the work they do, especially behind the scenes, to make our school run successfully.  We are so lucky to have such a talented and dedicated group of EAs who we could not survive without.

MJR Assembly

We have had a change this year to our MJR Assemblies, with the first one for the year being held in conjunction with our Open Morning in Week 10 on Thursday 24 September.  We look forward to awarding four deserving students as our MJR Stars.

Open Morning

We welcome the opportunity to share our learning with family members during our Open Morning each year in Term 3.  As mentioned, this year classrooms will be open on Thursday 24 September until 9:45am, when we have our MJR Assembly.  Tea and coffee will be available for parents outside the hall during Open Morning.

Uniform Shop

Summer uniform is worn in Term 4.  Please make sure you check summer uniforms to see if they still fit.

P&F follow up

Many events have been cancelled this year, including the Dardanup ‘Bull and Barrel’.  Special thanks to our P&F for the extremely successful Father’s Day breakfast and raffle.  Come along to the next meeting to discuss the upcoming events and activities.  You are most welcome.  This year’s executive committee are coming to the end of their term, so we are looking for interested people to take over these very important roles.  Please consider if this is something that you might be interested in doing for next year and have a chat to our current exec group (Alison O’Rourke, Laura Gibbs, Fiona Torrisi and Elise Jago) to find out what is involved.  It is a lot of fun, and very rewarding to be involved and to be part of some very special activities to support students in our school.

Special thanks to Leila Cooper for donating the gift pack prize for the winners of our Kahoot Quiz on Father’s Day.  Congratulations to the Moloney family, first place, Freya O’Brien and her Dad for second place and Kash Thompson and his Dad in third place.

P&F Support

Please click here for an overview of some of the types of activities and support provided by our wonderful Parents and Friends each year.  There is also an overview of the funds that are provided each year and the special projects that are supported each year.  Where would we be without our hard-working P&F?  They provide opportunities for building community, and much-needed additional resources that enhance learning and enhance our school environment.  Thank you sincerely to each and every one of you.  (Click here for overview)

Picket Fence in Nature Play area

Special thanks to our P&F for their support to complete the picket fence adjoining our Nature Play area.  It looks fantastic!

Grandparents Day

Please note for your calendar that we will be celebrating Grandparents Day in Term 4 on Friday 23 October.  Grandparents are invited to join us for Lapping Legends, followed by Assembly (with a performance by our choir) followed by morning tea.

Faction Fun Day

We are having our next Faction Fun Day on Friday next week, 25 September, the last day of term.  Students may wear their faction shirts with their sports uniform to develop team spirit in readiness for the Sports Carnival to be held in Week 1 next term.  Special lunch order notes for Subway went home last week.  We thank our senior students for sorting the lunch orders.

Faction Sports Carnival

This will be held on Friday 16 October.  Notes went home yesterday requesting assistance on the day.  Please return your note if you can help out.

Lapping Legends

On Friday 25 September, Faction Fun Day and last day of term, ‘Lapping Legends’ will be extended until 9:00am, instead of finishing at 8:45am.  This is an opportunity to run or walk a few extra laps to work towards reaching that next milestone.  Once again, I thank our P&F and parent volunteers for supporting ‘Lapping Legends’ each Friday.

School Board

Next meeting is TONIGHT, Tuesday 15 September at 5:30pm in the Staff Room.  The Board will be looking at changes due to CEWA becoming incorporated this year.

Italian Day

Tomorrow we will showcase the Italian learning that has taken place this year with a range of activities for all classes.  Students are invited to wear their sports shorts and a red, green or white t-shirt on this day, representing the colours of the Italian flag (faction shirts are ideal if your child is in Thomas or Finnegan!)

IT Device Planning and Parent Information Meeting

Recently parents completed a survey re Device planning for 2021, and when asked if a repeat of the parent meeting held at the end of last term would be something people were interested in attending, more than half of the respondents said it was.  We will re-run this information session on Tuesday 22 September at 6:30pm in the School Hall.

Staffing and Class Allocations for 2021

Staffing is a very complex process and will not be finalised until November.  Once finalised, this will be announced in the school newsletter.

Class Webpages

Remember to check the school website each semester to see the Class News pages.  The current webpages were uploaded last week and give an overview of class activities for the term.

School Fees

School fees are now overdue and reminder letters are being emailed out this week.  If you are experiencing difficulties with payment, please make a time to see me as soon as possible.  Thank you.

Soccer Goals

We are looking for someone with welding skills to make us some new soccer goals.  Please contact the school office if you can help.

Long Service Leave in Term 4

Two of our teachers will be taking a well-deserved Long Service Leave break in Term 4.  Miss Dillon will be on leave for the first 6 weeks of the term and will be replaced by Mrs Kate Western.  Mrs Dykstra will be away for the whole term and will be replaced by Miss Jessie Pilpel.  We wish them well for their leave and look forward to their return to OLOL.

2020 Family STEM Design Challenge – Stomp Rockets

If you are looking for something to do during the school holidays, here is an activity for your family.  Our Family STEM Design Challenge is on again, and this year the challenge is to make a ‘Stomp Rocket’.  Launch your rockets on Thursday 5 November on Science Day.  Click here for more details.

Term 4 Calendar

A copy of the Term 4 Calendar is available for you to download and view.  Please note that from time to time changes need to be made, so please check newsletter for updates.  A copy of the calendar is pinned to the top of the school Facebook page.

Wishing you a wonderful week and a relaxing holiday with your family, commencing next Friday 25 September.

School commences for Term 4 for students on Monday 12 October.

May God bless you

Mrs Angela Hegney
