Newsletter 13th October, 2020

Thank you, God, for my children.
I know they are a gift from you.
Each day I need your strength
and wisdom to guide them
on the right path.
Give me patience and a joyful heart.
Let me be an example of your love
and forgiveness.
Thank you, God, for the honour
and privilege of being a parent.

3ear Parents and Community Members,

Welcome back to school after the holidays.  Term 4 is going to be a very busy term.  There are many dates to note this term, with upcoming events such as Sports Carnival, Interschool Sports Day, Book Fair, Kindy Café and Orientation, Year 5 Surf Camp, Annual School Community Meeting and various end of year meetings and activities.  Please ensure that you check the Term Calendar, and also check the newsletter for any updates.  Just a reminder that our school-managed Facebook page is also a great way to keep up to date with what is happening.  Search for ‘Our Lady of Lourdes School’ on Facebook and ‘like’ our page.

MJR Stars

We had our first MJR Assembly for the year in the last week of Term 3 and were delighted to award 4 students as MJR Stars, including two from the same family.  Congratulations to Van, Finn, Meiah and Jasmine.  Reading their certificates and the reasons why they were chosen as MJR Stars certainly highlights that these students are role-models for their peers, in the way that they ‘Make Jesus Real’ to all they meet.  I look forward to sharing a special morning tea with them in the next week.

Grandparents Morning Tea

Please spread the word that Grandparents are invited to come to an Assembly on Friday 23 October.  This will be our Pre-primary Assembly and our Choir will lead the whole school in singing a song celebrating ‘Grandparents’ then there will be a special morning tea for Grandparents to stay and enjoy.

On Thursday 29 October we will be raising money for Catholic Missions Australia by participating in ‘Socktober’.  Students may wear a crazy/funny/silly/colourful pair of socks with their sports uniform for a gold coin donation.

School Board

The next meeting is on Tuesday 20 October at 5.30pm in the Staff Room.  In November, we will be calling for nominations for a new Board Member for 2021.  Please consider if this is something you would like to be part of, being involved with the school, sharing your gifts and talents with our community.  Please note that now CEWA is Incorporated, our School Board from next year will be known as the School Advisory Council.

P&F News

The next P&F meeting will be held on Tuesday 27 October at 6.30pm in the Staff Room.  Please consider coming along.  All are welcome to attend our P&F meetings, there are two each term, one evening and one morning meeting.  There is also an option to attend via Zoom.  Please call the office on the morning of the meeting to receive a meeting code.  Decisions will be made on P&F expenditure projects to support the school, so please come along to share your thoughts.

P&F Christmas Raffle

We are currently seeking donations of prizes for our annual Christmas Raffle.  Examples of possible prizes are things like accommodation packages, vouchers, activity passes, electronic equipment, to name a few.  If you have any ideas or would like to donate a prize, please contact the office.

Book Fair

This year the Book Fair will be held from Monday 26 October through to Tuesday 3 November, 8.20am-9.00am and 2.45pm-3.15pm (closed on Interschool Sports Day on Friday 30 October).   A reminder that you are welcome to bring along people from outside the school to have a look – the more books sold the more the school benefits.  This could be the perfect opportunity to get some early Christmas shopping done.  Extended family and friends are welcome.  The venue for the Book Fair is the school library.

Kindy Café

We welcome our Kindy students to their introduction to our school through their participation in Kindy Café sessions, starting next Monday 19 October with Group A and Monday 26 October for Group B.  Kindy 2020 Orientation meeting will be held on Monday 23 November at 9.00am in the School Hall.

Summer uniform is worn in Terms 1 and 4.  As stated in our School Handbook, ( ) formal uniform is worn with black leather shoes or navy or brown leather sandals.  If considering the sandal option, please be mindful that sandals need to be supportive of growing feet and suitable for running and climbing.  For sports days, sports shoes should be predominantly white, black or navy blue, and should not include fluoro colours or laces.  Please keep this in mind when purchasing new sports shoes, thank you.  Our uniform is a form of belonging and identity, and is worn with pride by most of our students.  Please note that the woollen jumper is worn with the formal uniform, the zip-up sports jacket is only worn with the sports uniform.  Please also note that extreme hairstyles are not part of our school uniform.

There will be some pricing increases for some uniform items from 1 November.  We endeavour to keep the cost of uniform items as close as possible to the price that we have to pay for them, to make them affordable for families.  Please note that orders before 1 November will be charged at the current prices, with increases due to take effect after that date.

School Faction Sports Carnival

This will be held THIS Friday 16 October with the weather forecast looking good for the day, hopefully!  Jumps, throwing events and long runs will commence at 8.30am, with running and tabloid events following.  If your child is in the early events, they would have received a note yesterday, and they will need to arrive by 8.30am.  A coffee van will be available for parents, and morning tea will be available for purchase, thanks to our P&F.  Lunch order forms were sent home last term for a Sausage Sizzle and juice drink.  Parents and friends are welcome to order as well.

If you have volunteered to bring a plate for morning tea, please bring it along on the day.  Helpers are needed to run the morning tea stall.  Please contact Jen Jones (Alex and George’s Mum) if you are able to help out for half an hour.

We look forward to a great day, celebrating team spirit and providing opportunities for students to compete and have fun.

Interschool Sports Carnival

Please note that our Interschool Carnival will be held on Friday 30 October, two weeks after our Faction Carnival.  Please note ‘factions’ for the Interschool Carnival (OLOL Blue and OLOL White) will be decided after our own carnival, to make it fair for everyone.  You will be informed just after our carnival.

If your child is in OLOL white, please can they wear a PLAIN white t-shirt, without writing or logos.  Examples of where to purchase a plain white t-shirt are ‘Best and Less’ or ‘K-Mart’ for about $5.  Students in OLOL Blue just wear the regular school sports shirt (NOT the Blue Columba faction shirt).

Arrival times at school and Dismissal times at the end of the day

Just a reminder that students are to arrive at school from 8.30am.  Any students at school before this time need to wait at the tables outside the Assistant Principals’ office.  Please note that after school supervision is provided near the Church at the ‘in-car pick-up’ area.  It is school duty-of-care that students are supervised until collected, and it is important that students go to the supervised area, and not wait unsupervised at the back of the oval for parents to collect them.  This ensures that we are able to enact our responsibility to students and families by supervising them until parents arrive.

School Fees

Please note that school fees are now overdue.  Please make payment as soon as possible.  If you have any concerns, please make a confidential appointment with the Principal.  Payment plans and direct debit options are available.

Term 3 Activities

At the end of last term, we were entertained by the Year 3 class during their assembly, had a visit from a giant dinosaur, showed off our work on Open Morning, enjoyed a Faction Fun Day with activities prepared by our senior students, and had a fantastic Italian Activities afternoon.  See photos of all these events in the gallery.

Centenary paving bricks

If you ordered a paving brick after our centenary celebrations that were held earlier this year, they have arrived and are now installed in the garden area.  Be sure to have a look!

Baby Welcome

Congratulations to Rebecca and Jordan Clemens and ‘big brother’ Chaz in Kindy on the safe arrival of their new son and brother, Cruz.  We look forward to meeting him.

Wishing you a wonderful week.

May God bless you
