MARY MACKILLOP PRAYER
Most loving God,
We thank you for the example of
St Mary MacKillop,
who in her living of the Gospel
witnessed to the human dignity of each person.
She faced life’s challenges
with faith and courage.
We pray through her intercession
for all of our needs
We make this prayer through Jesus the Lord.
Dear Parents and Community Members,
St Mary MacKillop Mass
To celebrate the feast of Australia’s first Saint, Mary MacKillop, students from Years 1-6 will be attending Mass on Friday 7 August at 11.00am. This year marks the 10th anniversary of canonisation of St Mary MacKillop.
First Holy Communion
Congratulations to Sienna, Sebastian, Xavier C, Joshua, Estrella, Tahlia, Penelope, Katelyn, Xavier B, Lachlan and Devereaux, who received Jesus in Holy Communion for the first time last Sunday. We pray that God continues to bless you all. See photos in the gallery.
Please keep the Year 6 Confirmation candidates and their families in your prayers as they complete their preparation for the Sacrament of Confirmation to be celebrated on Sunday 16 August at 10.30am. Fr Tony Chiera will be here with us this year. A reminder that the Parent-Child Workshop will be held this Wednesday, tomorrow, 5 August commencing at 6.00pm.
Math Murder Mysteries
Join us for a fun family event next Monday afternoon, 10 August, from 3:30pm in our school hall run by Scitech. Students and parents will be presented with a range of math puzzles they need to figure out to help solve a mystery. There will be a wide range of engaging math puzzles and activities to complete with your family. Mostly suitable for students in Years 4-6 but younger siblings are welcome to join in as well.
Well done to Michaela Williamson, who was selected to be part of the GATE (Gifted and Talented) program at Bunbury High for next year, and Indi Buswell, who has been selected for an Indigenous Scholarship at Bunbury Cathedral Grammar School for next year.
Congratulations to the Bowman family, Mel, Tim and Lenny, on the safe arrival of their beautiful daughter and sister, Teddi Lane. Congratulations to the Thumma family, Kiran, Amar and Karthikeya, on the safe arrival of their son and brother, Heyansh Krishna. Congratulations to Leah and Tim, Tyler and Noah Marchetti on the safe arrival on Cody Jay. We are awaiting a few more babies over the coming months. Very exciting times for our families.
Our meeting was held this morning. Upcoming events include helping with the Sacramental celebrations and Father’s Day activities. Parents are always welcome to come along to find out all the wonderful ways our P&F supports our school. We are having our School Disco on Thursday 20 August. Please click here for a flyer.
Dads please keep the morning of Friday 4 September free for a Father’s Day breakfast. More information to follow.
We are looking for donations for our upcoming Father’s Day Raffle. Father’s Day is usually our biggest school-based event, and drawing the raffle is a highlight of the morning. If you are able to help with raffle prizes, please contact one of our P&F Executive or the school office.
The next meeting for our School Board is Tuesday 15 September.
Keeping Safe: Child Protection Curriculum Parent Meeting
This will be held on Tuesday 1 September at 5.30pm in the School Hall, before the next P&F Meeting. Classroom teachers will be giving examples of the content covered and activities in each year level. Please click here for Focus Sheet 4 Parent Tip Sheet. All parents are welcome.
If you would like to purchase girls shorts for the summer uniform, please let the office know sizes no later than Friday 21 August. Please note that these items are not kept in stock and must be ordered. There are samples in the uniform shop to try on for sizing if needed. Please note there were delays with girls trousers due to COVID-19, and this may possibly be an issue with girls shorts as well. We will keep you posted, but in the meantime an idea of sizes needed will assist the school.
There are many un-named jumpers and sports jackets in our lost property. Please check if you are missing one.
Head Lice Check
Please keep checking your child’s hair as this is a problem that will recur if parents are not vigilant. Thank you. More information is available by clicking the following link from the Department of Health: www.health.wa.gov.au/headlice
A note was sent home last week requesting that parents indicate times for upcoming parent-teacher interviews, to be held on Friday 21 August. Please note that this is a Pupil Free Day. Supervision will be provided in the hall for students during interview times if needed.
‘Lapping Legends’ has re-started on Friday mornings at 8.30am. Parents, please make sure you are aware of social distancing. Hand sanitiser is available for you to use.
Class performance Assemblies will be limited to parents/grandparents of participating classes. The audience size will be reduced, as the whole school will not attend at the same time. Merit Certificates will not be given out at Friday Assemblies but instead will be presented on Monday Assemblies at 1.15pm, straight after our lunch break. As a result of the required ‘Kiss and Drop’ that was in place last term, and the maximising of teaching time on Monday mornings, teachers have opted to continue to begin their weeks with focused teaching, and instead, have Assemblies later in the day. If your child will be receiving a Merit Certificate, you will receive a text from the school and you can choose to attend. Please note we will take photos of the students receiving their certificates and will send them to you. Please note these activities/events may change in these challenging times, and I will inform you of any changes.
Afternoon collection of students
It is our duty of care to supervise students until they are collected by parents in the afternoons. Some senior students have been waiting at the back of the oval for parents and this is concerning because they are unsupervised by staff in this area. Supervision is provided near the Church at the ‘In-car pick-up’ area. I request that students wait in this area for parents. This way, we know they are safely supervised until they are collected. Thank you.
Entertainment Book Fundraising update from the P&F
In past years parents would be familiar with having an Entertainment Book sent home with their child. It was available to view and decide if the vouchers and deals on offer would provide value to your family. In 2020 the physical book has been completely replaced by the digital app and many families may not be familiar with how to use the app and whether it will still be worth purchasing.
The great news is we can now offer a Free 6 Week Trial of the digital Entertainment membership for a limited time. It will only be available to start the trial between August 10th-20th. Look out for the flyer coming home soon that will explain all the details of how to sign up. It is the perfect opportunity to try before you buy and see all the ways Entertainment can save you money.
The P&F receives 20% of every Entertainment membership sold. Memberships continue to be available for purchase all year round at https://www.entbook.com.au/89z899
Have a wonderful week.
May God bless you

Book week 2020
Due to COVID19, the Children’s Book Council has delayed their celebration until October. However, because of our Term Four commitments, we have decided to continue to celebrate Book Week in August. Our date for the Book Week Dress Assembly up is Friday 28 August. The theme is ‘Curious Creatures, Wild Minds’. At this point in time, we do not have final information about restrictions updates, so please watch this space to find out who can attend the Assembly.
Have fun planning costumes – remember characters must be in a book – and as always Thank you for your support of your children.
