The Advent Wreath
THE SECOND CANDLE – THE BETHLEHEM CANDLE
On the second Sunday in Advent two purple candles are lit.
The light burns brighter as Christmas is getting nearer!
The second candle reminds us of the time when Jesus came among us as a baby
and was born in the small town of Bethlehem.
By the light of this wreath, we wait in patience for Jesus the Christ,
who comforts our fears and brings hope to the world.
Come Lord Jesus.
Father, help us to prepare the way for Jesus, Light of the World.
Dear Parents and Community Members,
Community Carols Night
It was a wonderful night for our Community Carols last Friday. Thank you to everyone for coming to a beautiful evening, the best night of the year! Our students were fantastic, our staff were pretty awesome, too! Special thanks to Miss Barbera for all her work in preparing the students and organising the logistics for the night. The smiles on the faces of our students and the audience spoke volumes and brought some Christmas joy to our gathering. We are very grateful for the assistance of Luke Campbell from Bunbury Catholic College for setting up and managing the sound for the night. We were able to borrow all the sound equipment from BCC as well. We are extremely appreciative of this support and collaboration between our two schools. See photos in gallery and save the date for next year!
MJR Morning Tea
I was lucky to be able to have morning tea today with our recently awarded MJR stars. Thank you, Zac, Isobel, Elsie and Lachlan for being such lovely people, selected by your teachers as role models for your peers because of the wonderful qualities you display every day. Thank you for ‘Making Jesus Real’ to everyone you meet.
Year 6 Farewell
Last week, our Year 6 students had their End of Year Excursion to ‘Xscape at the Cape’. We will celebrate their Graduation tomorrow night as part of our formal end of year celebration and Awards Night. There will also be a special ‘Colour-run’ on their last day of Primary School on Friday.
Year 1 Nativity Assembly
Our final Assembly for the year was held last Thursday morning, presented by the Year 1 class. See photos in the gallery of their beautiful performance.
On Friday morning at 9:00am in our school hall, we will be celebrating our Thanksgiving Mass, giving thanks to God for all our learning, growing, fun and friendship throughout 2020. Please consider joining us. Fr Wayne will celebrate Mass with us.
P & F News
The P&F Christmas raffle is currently underway and will be drawn on the last day of school. Thank you to our wonderful P&F for all their work supporting this last fund-raising activity this year. Please make sure that all raffle books are sent back to the school as soon as possible. I am delighted to report that at the recent AGM, a new Executive Team nominated to take over the roles from our current team. Thank you to our outgoing Executive Alison O’Rourke, Laura Gibbs, Fiona Torrisi, and Elise Jago. Welcome to Monique Jillett, Celeste Williamson, Analise Roberts, Olivia Treasure and Rachel Oakes.
School Board Update
Thank you to our School Board members of 2020. At our recent School Board AGM it was announced that Briony Page will be retiring from her Board role due to her youngest child finishing Primary School. Jayden Edwards has nominated as a Board Member and this was accepted at the AGM. Rachel Oakes was accepted as P&F Rep on the Board.
Our school board for 2021 will consist of:
Angela Hegney Principal—Ex-Officio member
Fr Wayne Bendotti Parish Priest—Ex-Officio member
Chairperson will be elected from the group at the first meeting in 2021.
End of Year Celebration/Graduation
Tomorrow evening we will hold our End of Year Awards Night and Graduation for our Year 6 students in our school undercover area. It is a beautiful way to celebrate the journey the Year 6’s have had at OLOL as well as acknowledging very worthy award recipients from each class. The evening starts at 6.00pm. All students from Years 5-6 and Choir students are expected to attend, wearing their formal summer uniform. Students will be seated with their class and teacher. Siblings of Year 5 and 6 students and Choir members are welcome to attend. We have made some changes this year due to the restrictions that are currently in place, so not all students in the younger years are required to attend. Please make sure students are seated by 5.45pm, thank you. There will be supper in the hall to follow for Year 6 families.
Last Friday we had our last ‘Lapping Legends’ for the year, and celebrated the top runners for the year. Sincere thanks to Ellen Barbetti for her planning and organisation throughout the year to make this an extremely successful initiative that brings people together and supports our students to set, strive for and reach goals, while promoting a healthy, active lifestyle. Special thanks to Jolene and Ben Humphrey, Active Discovery, for sponsoring our Lapping Legends program this year. Students took home certificates with the year total number of laps yesterday. Next year, we will be participating in an Interschool Cross-Country event, so ‘Lapping Legends’ will be a good training activity for students! See photos in the gallery.
Reports will be made available to parents via Seqta Engage on Friday 11 December. If your child is in Year 6 or is leaving the school, you will need to download and save or print your child’s report before Thursday 17 December, as these reports will be archived.
Our students continue to look smart in their school uniform. They show pride and feel a sense of belonging when wearing their uniform. A reminder that we start 2021 in our formal summer uniform for students in Years 1-6. It is compulsory for all Pre-Primary students to wear the sports uniform.
If you are considering sandals for your child to wear with the formal summer uniform, please make sure they are proper ‘school sandals’. Many students are wearing strappy sandals that are not supportive of their growing feet and are dangerous when running and climbing. Here is an example of a supportive sandal that has arch support and an enclosed heel. Please note that sandals need to be navy in colour.
Our uniform shop will be open on Friday 29 January from 8.00am for last minute purchases before the new school year commences. It is preferable to order and pay using CDF Pay, then your orders will be pre-packed (and paid for) for you to collect on that day. If you order online before Thursday 28 January, you can collect your orders on Friday 29 January. (Please note CDF Pay will be unavailable for part of the holidays and re-opened late January). If you don’t order using CDF Pay, please bring correct cash on the day. Please click here for uniform list and order form.
Our Lady of Lourdes School Fee Structure 2021
It is essential for the running and improvement of school facilities and resources, as well as the sharing of responsibility between all families, that we receive payment of fees. Fees for 2021 have NOT been increased as per CEWA recommendations. School fees are billed annually. Payment options include a ‘one off’ payment which is payable within 28 days of billing. Alternatively, payments can be scheduled over a 10-month period (February-November), monthly, fortnightly or weekly using the direct debit facility of the Catholic Development Fund or Bpay payments. Other payment options are available by making an appointment with the Principal. Likewise, if you are having difficulty meeting the full fee amounts please do not hesitate to contact the Principal for a confidential meeting to discuss options and alternatives.
Health Care Card (HCC) discounts are only applicable to tuition fees and amenities fees. All other charges are still required to be paid.
The Amenities Fee covers some of the costs associated with incursions, stationery, some transport and sporting events. Further costs for excursions may need to be charged. The Amenities Fee does not cover School Camps or Swimming Lessons.
The IT & Building levies allow for the purchasing of ICT hardware and upgrades of infrastructure and licensing as necessary. Student Insurance is also provided by the school for each child attending from Kindergarten to Year 6. Contact the Office for more information.

End of Year Fun Day
This Thursday will be our whole school Fun Day, with lots of activities and games for the students. Sausage sizzle lunch, a drink and ice-cream will be provided for all students. We look forward to celebrating the end of the year together. Students will need to wear their bathers and a rashie or t-shirt. They will need to wear sports shoes to school and bring thongs to wear on the oval. Hats and sunscreen are needed because the forecast is for a hot day. There will be pony rides, Lions train, bouncy castles and lots more! Students will need to change into dry sports uniforms for the afternoon activities.
We recently advertised for a Groundsman, and I would like to advise that Brian Quaife has been appointed in this part-time position. Brian has been working on a contract basis for a while now, and has been doing a wonderful job in maintaining our beautiful school grounds. Congratulations Brian.
Here is the staff list for 2021. All classes have visited their new classrooms and met their new teachers at our Transition Afternoon.

Special thanks to Miss Pilpel for taking our Year 3 class this term while Mrs Dykstra has been on long service leave. Thank you for the energy and enthusiasm that you brought to our school.
Once again, we have had an outstanding response to donations for Vinnies to distribute to those in need this Christmas. Thank you to all our families for your kind donations.
Thank you and best wishes
As the end of the school year approaches I would like to thank everyone for their presence and contribution to our school life this year. It is through the efforts of so many that we achieve so much. It has been a challenging year, but together we supported our students so they could continue to learn.
To our Year 6 students – congratulations on completing your first eight years of schooling. Enjoy high school knowing you have been well prepared. You are all ready for this next exciting chapter in your lives.
To our families leaving at the end of this year – thank you for the support you have shown the school during your time at OLOL. Best wishes for all your future endeavors.
I hope you and your families have a lovely Christmas and that our staff and students enjoy their well-deserved break.
School concludes for students on Friday 11 December. Reports will be available to view and download on SEQTA Engage on Friday 11 December.
