Dear Parents and Community Members,
Car park Procedures
It has certainly been a very different and challenging start to the term for everyone. Despite the challenges, our students and parents have been wonderful, and our staff have celebrated the positive way that our students, little ones in particular, have managed to navigate their way through the morning drop off and afternoon pick-up. Although this was imposed on us at the beginning of term, we have all successfully adapted to the new arrangements, and staff have noted the following in recent weeks:
- Each morning children are more focused and ready for learning
- The start of the day is calmer
- Children are showing independence through simple tasks like carrying their own bag, unpacking items and putting their bag in the correct place
- Children are developing greater resilience and confidence
- Learning starts on time, and teachers have the opportunity for focused, dedicated teaching time
Last Wednesday, Dr Debra Sayce, Executive Director of Catholic Education sent us the Phase 3 School Operational Guidelines:
“Parent and Caregiver Access. Parents and caregivers are allowed onto school grounds to drop off and collect their children. To ensure the 2m square rule is adhered to, parents are asked not to enter classrooms at the beginning or end of the school day.”
Feedback from some parents is that the morning ‘Kiss and Drop’, with staff members meeting students in the car park has been working well from a family point of view. We have all come so far and do not want to lose the momentum we have gained. Therefore, we are asking parents to assist us and ensure some continuity moving forward especially around continuing with the morning drive through drop off if this suits your family.
For the rest of this term, staff will continue to supervise drop-off and pick-up in the front car park. If parents would like to walk their children into school or walk in to pick up their children, please park at the Church or the back of the oval, as the front car park will not be available for parking. Please remember that Phase 3 Guidelines do not allow parents to enter classrooms. In the afternoons for the rest of this term, we would like to continue with the car park procedures we have been implementing for the last 6 weeks. At the end of the term, we will seek parent feedback to make a decision regarding Term 3 car park procedures.
As a result of this productive start to the school day, we have decided to have our Monday morning Assemblies after lunch on Mondays, rather than first thing in the morning. This is a simple change that shows the importance we place as a school on the morning teaching time. Teachers have commented that they feel they have gained some extra time in the morning.
This independence of our younger students has been a great outcome of parents ‘dropping and leaving’ during the last six or so weeks. For every parent who has missed being able to enter the school, I imagine that there are an equal number of parents who have appreciated the efficient manner in which drop off and the collection has occurred without the need to enter the school.
Thank you for your ongoing support, and please congratulate your wonderful children on the positive way they have adapted to the changes to their routines.
Please make sure your child brings their own water bottle to school. It is recommended that they do not use the water fountains to drink from, but just to refill their water bottles if needed.
School Photos will be held on Tuesday 30 June, Week 10. Photo envelopes were sent home with students last week.
Family Photos will be taken from 8.00am. There are separate envelopes for Family Photos and these need to be collected from the office prior to photo day. Families will need to come to the hall before school to have their family photo. Please bring envelope and payment on the day for Family Photos.
Letters of offer will be sent this week for places in Kindergarten 2021. Parents of siblings already attending OLOL, please return your acceptance as soon as possible. There will be a parent meeting on 23 November and Kindy Café on Mondays in Term 4. Please note that Kindergarten 2021 will be full at the end of this week. Further enrolments will be placed on a waitlist.
The next Board meeting will be held on Tuesday 16 June at 5.30pm in the Staff Room.
School fees payments are due by 29 June. Reminder statements will be emailed shortly. If you haven’t commenced any repayments and are experiencing difficulties, please contact me to arrange a confidential chat. Thank you.
Our P&F met last week and were informed that the Dardanup Bull and Barrel Festival will not be going ahead this year.
This Disco has been postponed until we are able to have large groups of people gather at school, and will probably be held in Term 3.
NAIDOC Activity Afternoon
This has been cancelled for this year. We look forward to getting together with our friends from Dardanup Primary School for this activity afternoon again next year.
Keeping Safe: Child Protection Curriculum (KS:CPC)
The KS:CPC teaches all children from a young age, in an age-appropriate way, to:
- recognise abuse and tell a trusted adult about it
- understand what is appropriate and inappropriate touching; and
- understand ways of keeping themselves safe.
Teachers who deliver the curriculum must complete a training course. Please click here for a Parent Tip Sheet referring to Focus Area 1 of the Child Protection Curriculum. In each newsletter, there will be a link to a Parent Tip Sheet, and we will be holding a Parent Information meeting on Tuesday 1 September at 5.30pm as a refresher for interested parents who would like to know a little more about the Keeping Safe program.
Faction Fun Day
This Friday, 12 June, is our Faction Fun Day for Term 2. Students may wear their faction shirts with their sports uniforms and order Pizza for lunch, thanks to the efforts of our Year 6 class. Device Planning Process
If you would like to be involved in a Device Planning Team, consisting of Staff, Students and Parents, please save the date for a meeting on Thursday 2 July 3.15-4.15pm in the school hall. Students from Years 3-6 are invited to be part of the Team, and all parents are welcome too. We will be discussing our current IT status, challenges and possible plans for future devices. We welcome the input of parents to support our planning as some of the devices that we currently use are coming to the end of their life.
Reporting to Parents/Parent Interviews
In the changeover to the new CEWA Administration system, all past SEQTA Engage parents User Names and passwords have lost their link. To ensure that you receive your child(ren)s report for Semester One, a new link will be sent to you in Week 9. Please follow the directions given to set up your new User Name and Password for your account to receive the reports.
Please note that due to the interruption to student learning this year, the Semester 1 report will look a little different.
The reporting for all subjects will use a three point scale to show learning progress:
- Above Expected Level
- At Expected Level
- Working Towards Expected Level
This reporting period we will report on Religious Education, English, Mathematics, HASS, Science (PP – 6), Music (PP – 6), Italian (3 – 6).
Parent Teacher Interviews will be held in Term 3, at a date to be advised.
Pupil Free Date changes
Please note that the Pupil Free Day scheduled for Thursday 20 August (Term 3, Week 5) will now be held on Monday 20 July (first day of Term 3). This is due to the cancellation of the Professional Learning event we were going to be attending. The Pupil Free Day on Friday 21 August will remain the same.
